In front of the Congress Palace of Puerto del Rosario, the place in the city where music enjoys a privileged space, stands the Opera Prima by Jorge Isaac Medina, a native of Puerto Rico but settled on the neighboring island of Lanzarote. Made from corten steel plates and other metals, the work came to light in 2018 during the X Sculpture Symposium of the Majorero capital, in which the author embarked on the adventure of creating the first large-format creation of his career, with the magnificent result that we can all contemplate today. Several meters high, Jorge Isaac's conductor imposes himself before an invisible orchestra prepared to begin the performance, knowing that, even without playing an instrument, he holds in his metallic hands the power to guide the combined work of his musicians to harmonic perfection and sonic ecstasy. Appropriately dressed for the occasion, the conductor raises his arms to the air with impetus while the disheveled curls hide his face, swayed by that wind that blows so assiduously on the island. But that we cannot see his expression is no impediment to imagining his countenance, probably contracted and charged with emotion as he prepares to move his baton to the sound of a melody as silent as it is eternal.
