"An insignificant, yet concrete presence of a volume occupying a space." This is how Toño Patallo conceives this work, created during the IX Sculpture Symposium of Puerto del Rosario in 2015. Its very title both defines and makes it indeterminate: it DOES NOT SIGnify ANything. That is, think about it, imagine it, perceive it, feel it and understand it however you wish. In short, make it your own. Crafted entirely from corten steel, the sculpture, several meters tall, describes angular forms and stands out against the arid Majorcan landscape, whose earthy colors perfectly match the characteristic reddish-orange hue of this type of steel. This is the second work that Patallo has christened with the name Nosigna, and it is as different from the first as only two sisters could be. While the other is colossal and mastodonic, this one is defined by more delicate and fine forms, stretching skyward with a gracefulness uncommon in a material such as the one composing it. The relative ease of comprehension that concrete figures offer to those who observe them is amply compensated by the enjoyment that abstract forms provide, as changeable and diverse as the eyes that contemplate them. Forms that challenge the imagination with the guarantee of never erring, for being nothing, it lends itself to being everything.
