Amancio González is the author of this work, which forms part of a collection he has called Deconstrucción and which joins the many others that the sculptor has been leaving across the island. This one, located on the maritime avenue of Puerto del Rosario, was created in 2015 during the IX Sculpture Symposium of the capital city, in which steel assumed all the prominence. In the work one can see a human figure on an elevated slope that narrows as it gains height; a man who, far from being solid and compact, deconstructs himself, explodes into thousands of fragments, each one as dependent on the previous as it is necessary for the next, for only the whole makes the totality. From above he pushes a cube and breaks away mercilessly from part of the base that supports him as if it were excessive, as if he did not need it. It shines with the intensity of stainless steel performing balancing acts at the edge of a matte and dark precipice of corten steel. A sculpture of figurative style but which lends itself to deeper interpretations for those who contemplate it more thoughtfully: breaking with the past, letting go of possible chains, daring to assume risks, casting off moorings... and perhaps flying.
