The statue is accompanied by a plaque that reads: 'Seated alongside the pigeons, in the square where he so often brought his paintings, it represents the folk painter who repeatedly portrayed the goat port of the 1930s and the compulsive writer who recorded experiences and memories of that era. His silent companions are the church from 1824, the Cabildo, the Insular State Directorate, and the old Hotel Fuerteventura, residence of Unamuno during his 1924 exile on the island'

La estatua se acompaña una placa que reza: “Sentado junto a las palomas, en la plaza a la que tantas veces llevó sus cuadros, representa al pintor popular que retrató de forma reiterada el puerto de cabras de la década de 1930 y el escritor compulsivo que anotó vivencias y recuerdos de aquella época. Son sus mudos compañeros la iglesia de 1824 el Cabildo, la Dirección Insular del Estado o el antiguo hotel Fuerteventura, morada de Unamuno en su destierro de 1924 en la isla”
